Has anybody ever come across any bats manufactured by a company named Houghkirk? Any information on this company would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

I've seen lots of bats over the years, but that's a new one on me....got a pic of it?

edited to add: nothing comes up in a google search and just the name "houghkirk" brings up very little hits on google so if I had to guess it's probably a small town sporting goods store or a manufacturing company that made very few bats.

Dan,

I'll post some photos. Interestingly, this bat is a "Halas Type". I checked with Bushing, and he also had never heard of Houghkirk. The centerbrand reads "Houghkirk 250 Polin". Strange bird.

Thanks,

Rob

"Halas type"...Wow. Interesting bat. Perhaps Houghkirk is a manufacturer from Illinois?

Or maybe a town where Halas played minor league or semi pro ball? Hard to believe such a small company would have had their bat in his hands while he played in New York. But then again, he had to use something.

Sounds like an interesting bat Rob. I don't recall seeing this maker before but will have to wait and see the pictures. I have heard of a Hanna Batrite Halas model before.

Here are a few shots of the bat. Anxious to see if anyone has seen any "Houghkirk 250 Polin" labeling before.

Houghkirk

Rob,

Houghkirk was likely a tool manufacturer that made wooden implements (handles for axes, picks, etc.) and occasionally made bats as advertising pieces or as specialty items.
