Burleigh Grimes signed personal checks find

I've recently obtained some Burleigh Grimes signed personal checks. The sellers' grandmother was Burleigh Grimes landlord in Trenton, Missouri. When she passed away these checks were found in her belongings with a 1935 Spalding Guide as well, that belonged to Burleigh Grimes. The checks were written in the years 1932, 1933, 1934, and 1948. I've attached a couple scans to view. I am asking for opinions as to the value and how best to sell them. I am a baseball card guy, not an autograph expert, and I have not found much info on HOF checks.

I know that many great finds on Ebay come from Grandmothers attic, please be assured that this find is the real deal. They will have no trouble getting COA's in my opinion.

I am cardinalcollector on Ebay, I've had over 3300 transactions, with 1 undeserved negative. I've also been on the card side of Net 54 for several years.

Thanks in advance, Randy Trierweiler

I would guess in the $50-$75 range for each. Grimes is not a tough autograph, but I suspect these might bring more than the ordinary Grimes auto since they are on personal checks.

Checks are popular with autograph collectors as they are easier to authenticate. In big auctions you'll see signed personal checks from everyone from Ty Cobb to Cary Grant to Madonna. PSA/DNA entombs checks like they do baseball cards. So autographed checks are a standard with autograph collectors.

Below is a very rare Greta Garbo signed check.

Grimes Checks

Just an observation but the 2 Grimes signatures look to be by 2 different people. To me they dont look close at all.

What a difference fourteen years makes...

Both checks were written by the same guy--all the letter forms are the same.
For example, look at the "T" in "Twelve" in the first check, and in "Twenty" in the second.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will sell these on the Net 54 BST. Randy

Burleigh Grimes checks ready to sell

March 25 2008, 11:56 PM

Hi guys, I have 19 different personal checks of Burleigh Grimes ready to sell. I have prepared an e-mail that shows all 19 so you can choose which one(s) you would like. I am asking $50 ppd each. If you need more than one, e-mail me. Thanks, Randy

Great chance to pick up a HOF cancelled check at a reasonable price.
