Is the value of a hardcover 1933 who's who different if it has the red cover vs. the purple cover. I seen in one of the mastro auction's two months ago they had a purple covered one which sold for $700. Is the red one worth less or around the same. Thanks

The purple cover is less common but I never heard of it fetching a premium. Maybe the purple one in Mastro was very high grade?

I guess Max is the guy to ask, but I agree with Barry in that I have encountered more red bindings than purple.

I believe that these volumes are normally priced at $4-500 for nice examples. Am I correct in this?

You can get an EX copy for about $250-300. Of course, there's a big premium with a dust jacket.

I agree with Barry that the book without dj is $250 to $300 for a nice copy. $750 is way too high

As well, the purple is less common, but by no means rare. Finding a copy with dj is much much tougher. You will probably see at least 100 copies for every one that has a dj.

(I do have an extra copy in dj, if anyone is interested. If so, please ignore my comment about $750 for a no dj copy being way too high )

Max- there is also a softcover whose covers match the illustration on the dustjacket.

Yes, I have a copy of it. It is much thinner than the hardcover version; I believe it was a saleman's sample. In my experience, it is as about as difficult to find as a dust jacketed copy

Max- how nice is your duplicate with a dj? I never sent you my list of books, but I probably could put a little trade together.

I'll get my list together as well (a trip to my 82 year old mother's house this past weekend, and taking a dumpster full of 50 year old magazines has motivated me to thin out my collection). One dj is real nice, but has been restored. The other has a number of chips and tears, and part of the spine has been detached but present. Looks presentable in brodart.
