I'm thinking about letting this piece go and wanted to gather some photo expert opinions on value from the board before I decided. Heres a link that should tell you what you need to know.

Here is a link to additional pictures of it.

It was also the cover photo on a book written by David Rudd on vintage photography. Thanks in advance all, Keith O'Leary

Keith:

Two important pieces of information would be the approximate date of production as well as whether a specific studio is identified on the piece.

Great photo, good story...it looks most impressive in the shot of it framed.

Phil,

Hes wearing his championship fob and to me, looks very young. I'm thinking the photo was taken shortly after the 1906 season ended. The shot was taken by Charles Walinger, Chicago who also took portraits of a president or two during his career I later found out. Walinger signed the portrait in the lower right hand corner in what looks like oil pencil to me. It looks like "06" underneath his signature, but I can't be positive.

Very impressive. Without that information, I would have guessed somewhere in the mid-hundreds ($400 - $600) but with the additional provenance, I would think somewhere in the $1,000-range would be a reasonable figure.
