Sports reporting from 1743

Just picked up a magazine from 1743 which contains an article about the evils of public and/or proffessional cricket matches. i was struck how these were the same arguments used against baseball in America 130 years later. As a side note can anyone explain the use of "f" in the place of "s"

The "f" is simply just an "s"

It was used in 18th c. print instead of the "S" unless it fell at the beginning or end of a word, or when two "s" fell together.
