That letter came from the estate of Col. Jacob Ruppert. Chapin was a team owner and one of Ed Barrows friends and most of the letters like yours between barrow and Chapin refer to trying to start a new league around 1916-17 which died with World War 1 putting a dent into baseball revenue. I bought 5-6 letters signed by Chapin from this estate when Alan Swaim was selling them throughout late 2007 and early 2008. This one was bought from him and then resold on ebay. I would think it is worth closer to $100 than what you paid so you did well, the market is just a little flooded with these types of letters right now so I would just hang onto it for the moment.

I am not sure if this is the type of info you are looking for or not, but that is what I've got.

Rhys

You got a very good deal. Do you know why the item ended a few days early with a BIN?
