Is that auction still running? Was it relisted? I find it odd that they didn't even mention that a name was on the barrel until someone asked.

I recall the original listing as simple with little to no detail. Then, BAM! it was relisted to include a fabulous story. Last I saw the bidding was $1600+. Does anyone think the photo is really Nap?

The name being on the opposite side of the logo is correct.

As for the other questions... Lajoie endorsed W&D bats. There were several models including the double knob. The information contained in the listing can be found on many websites. There's no ironclad proof putting that bat in Lajoie's hands. Its a good and interesting story, but I need more proof to be convinced that it's a gamer. Its still a cool bat tho.

Seems highly unlikely to me, but possible I suppose. The story is quite detailed, and it seems that the Mill owners could conceivably be contacted to verify the story (if so desired).

The seller states that the Bat definitely came directly from LaJoie, but cannot guarantee it's game-used (though he thinks it is). As a potential gamer, the length (32 3/4") seems short to me, and the name on back of the barrel seems odd as well.

Perhaps (if the seller really believes it to be authentic) he should re-list it a third time, and include a Mears Certification along with an affadavit from the Mill owner, stating it's provenance.

This Bat has already exceeded $1,650 so it looks like numerous people are at least buying into the story... will be an interesting one to watch!

So this guy has done "extensive research" on this bat yet 3 days ago he didn't even bother to mention the fact that "LAJOIE" was stamped in the barrel??? Now he's claiming that the youngster in the photo is Lajoie?

Sounds like some hyperbole is going on here.

Here's the original listing for those that didn't see it.

I've had two of these and seen close to a dozen others and the name is always on the other side of the earlier versions. The one thing you have to watch is the model number as the bat could have had one of the knobs cut off. From what I've seen though the model five was a single knob configuration. So, everything appears ok with this bat. The bat the kid is holding in the picture looks like a ring bat though and not this bat. As for the price these are rare bats, that had the first player endorsement, and were produced around 1903-1905. When will you see another?

Clint, I think the seller is claiming the photo is of a young LaJoie with the bat the mill owner gave him.
