I purchased this last week and wondered if anyone knows the approx. date it was printed? It was made by Compton Litho Co. St Louis. It's 3-3/16" x 5-1/8".
Thanks,

DH

I haven't seen it before, but it looks late 1800s to me.

That resembles a Gargling Oil trade card to me. I would date it to the early 1880's but it could be later 1880's as I am unfamiliar with that particular one...I think the other trade cards I have, similar to this one, are from 1881....best regards

The bottom text font is identical to the font on some other late 1800s trade cards, so it's safe to date it to that period. Plus, it overall resembles a trade card from that period.

I knew Drummond was bought out by American Tobacco in 1898 so it had to be at least 1897 or earlier. Thanks for the input.

James T. Drummond

Someone in our office suggested the card dates to the 1884-85 year. And below is some data on the founder of the tobacco company - good luck with more data.

James T. Drummond
Birth: Nov. 21, 1834
Death: Sep. 30, 1897

Businessman. Founded the Drummond Tobacco Company in St. Louis. The Drummond Tobacco Company later was purchased by the Meyers Tobacco Company (later became Liggett-Meyers). He served as Alton, Illinois' mayor from 1868 to 1871.
