I saw a Devils team letting up AFTER the Gomer goal was waived off, NOT after the Foote goal went in. And then the Avs took advantage. Was the Foote goal weak? Yes. Not atrocious or horrendous, but not particuarly good (meaning it was 'stoppable').
Is that an excuse for the team to decide they don't have to play hard in front of the goalie? NO.
As for some of the other goals, I could have sworn I saw our 'best defense in the NHL" (ha, I don't think so! Some fans OVERrate this d) deflecting pucks past Marty or screening him. He's not to blame for all those goals.
And no one seems to have noticed our goalie was HURT most of this series.... but if you think a "haven't played in 2 months" Beezer would have fared better, i beg to differ.
Roy may have outplayed Marty, but Roy had MORE offensive AND defensive support by far.
