We've finally heard back from the DoD on our uncle Newton Williams. I'm waiting on a copy of his record, but a transcription provides the following info. If there are any China Marines out there who might remember him, I would be very pleased to hear from you:
He went to Boot Camp at Parris Island 5/1/26. After a
short time in New Orleans at what looks like it might be a Naval Prison Detachment he went to the 24th Company, 3rd Battalion of the 4th Regiment on 6/16/27.
On what appears to be 12/31/27 he was with
them in Shanghai. He was transferred to the 28th MG&How Company, 1st BN, 4th Reg on 2/8/29, and promoted to PFC on 1/15/29,
On 6/30/29 he was transferred to the Headquarters Co of the 4th Reg.
On 1/20/30 he shows up at the Norfolk Naval Yard in Portsmouth, VA. He reinlisted for two years on 2/12/30 and 2/14/30 was at the Marine Barracks Naval Ammunition Depot in Iona Island, NY.
On 7/30/30 he was promoted to Corporal.
On 3/9/32 he went to the Company B 7th Reserve Regiment and was discharged as a Corporal on 3/8/36.
