Hi, I'm doing research on Soochow the dog that served with the China Marines and was a POW with them in the Philippines. Hoping to find a surviving Marine that served with Soochow. Thanks for a reply.

Hi you might want to try the Sixth Marine Division website and see if you can find someone from the 4th Marines. Their website is WWW.Sixthmarinedivision.com Just do a post on their message board.

Mark,
My father, Jack Elkins was on the last ship out of Shangahi, the Harrison 27 November 1941. He was detailed to see that the crates of HQ office gear actually made shipboard. Several others were present as well when the decision to crate the faithful K-9 up with the last of the freight. Orders required all Corp property to be loaded. Soochow Qualified! Dad is healthy and while everyone as made an attempt to be the official Gaurdian of the animal Dad just smiles at the folly. The animal was not given to orentials and was partial to 2nd Battalion.

You may have already heard from my pal Barbara Libby. She is an author and her husband was in the Corps in the 50's. He suggested Soochow as a topic after reading some Corps history where Sooch was mentioned. Thanks again for the contact, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, we just had a baby. Sleepily yours, Mark
