Dick:
Thanks for your message. Our CMA Website is down and may
never
recover. The Marine who was running it was too busy with other
matters
to continue and pulled it off the net and sent me a disc of it,
in case
we could locate a replacement for him. I have tried to do that
without
success so far, but will continue trying. Please tell the
inquirees it
is down and we are trying to locate someone to continue it.
When and if
we do we will bring it back on line.

I am planning on again attending the meeting in Charleston SC and am writing this to maybe contact another China Marine like me. Live in Florida but wife will probably not go so will be alone. I was with the 5th at Tangku and awhile with the 7th at Petaiho Beach. Was in communication my 4 years in the service and have had a bad time trying to locate buddys. Be nice to share the room with another old China Marine. I attended St Louis and was same at that meeting just lost contact with any from my outfit. Thanks Jim Ehrhardt Cpl

Jim, I have you on 1st Battalion Muster Roll for April, 1947. It lists you as James D. MOS 641 in HqCo. I'll not be making Charlston, but you check in with C-1-5----one hell of a great bunch

Lloyd, do you have rosters for all of 1st Bn.?
I would like to get a copy of Bravo Company for 46-47. I was in a weapons squad as an ammo humper for the thirty Cal. MG aircooled. I believe my Platoon leader was Lt. Killian and I am haveing trouble remembering the CO and First Sergeant. Can you be of any help?

For at least part of the period you named ('46/'47), 1stSgt Rocco Angelo Zullo and Captain Robert ("Rapid Robert")Mill(s?) were in the billets you were asking about if memory serves correctly. Lt Kilian was the CO, 3d MT Bn., in Danang, SVN, as a LtCol in '66 the last time I saw him. He was kind enough to invite me to spend the night at his compound rather than go back to the bunker on 317. One heck of a nice guy and a good friend. I am professor of history at George Washington University and a Lt.Col. (ret) in the Marine Corps. I would like to contact Marines in who served in north China 1945-49 who would be willing to share information about their experiences. I am researching a book on the end of World War II in East Asia.

Dear Mr. Spector:
I saw your email re info from Marines who were in North China in 1945. Actually, I am trying to get information on my father. He had a stroke 3 yrs ago and is presently in the hospital - since last october 2000. In the process of preparing for the inevitable, my mother gave me some info about that time in his life. However, someone told me (another member of CMA) that the CMA would have a bio on every member. Im trying to find out how to get that bio.
Is there a CMA phone number I can call to get informAtion on my father? I was just surfing a little to get it and saw something to the effect that the website is down. I cant find a recent phone number as the copy of the newsletter that I have access to - is about 5 yrs old.
My father, Myron J. Cowen was a Lt. According to my mother, "he fought in the Pacific with the First and Sixth Division ("1st and 6th"?) landing in Saipan and Okinawa. After the war, he was sent with the Occupation Forces to Tiensin, China. During the landing at Okinawa, his first son, Gary was born - my brother. And he was inducted into the CMA.
If you are interested, and I imagine you have an enormous amount of responses by now, I could at some point retreive his letters from my mother (depending upon her mood at the time!). At any rate, you will probably have so many people giving you info first-hand already.
I really do need to find out where I can get his entire bio. Any ideas? I would really appreciate your help.
Sincerely,
Melinda Cowen
