I AM A RETIRED USMC RESERVIST LIVING IN SHANGHAI. THE USS BLUE RIDGE IS SCHEDULED FOR A PORT VISIT HER ON FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 23- 25 MARCH. SHE IS DOCKING AT A PLA NAVAL STATION ABOUT 6 BLOCKS NORTH OF SOUCHO CREEK AND THE HUANG PU RIVER. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS THE OLD US FLEET LANDING. CAN ANY ONE CONFIRM OR DENY THIS.

Records of Shanghai Newspapers might have the information. Check with the Newspapers or the local libraries. Interestingly, I had an auncle who was career US NAVY and was in and out of Shanghai during the 1920s and early 30s.

I was in Shanghai in 1937 and 1939 traveling with my father who was a 1stSgt at the time. We came thru from Guam where my Father was stationed. The navy transports at that time always tied up at the Bund. I am sure you are familiar with where that is located. I feel that is what was considered the fleet landing. I am not sure however.

In looking at a map of Shanghai by the Navy YMCA in the late 30's, I find the Bund adjacent to the Quai de France. In the channel of the Wangpoo, there are 4 anchors marked Britain,France,US,Japan which would seem to indicate the anchoring points. These are directly opposite to the Quai de France strip of beach and downstream(upstream?) from the Bund. So the Bund may have been it or maybe the strip called the Quai de France???

Hi Dick:
What a surprise to see a body from the 3rd that went to Tientsin I was attached to the Div PO near Agana.
Left for China in Dec and was in The III AC PO, in the old American Barracks. When that went home we went to the 1st Div PO on the other side of town in the old
Italian Barracks. Went up to Chinwantao for a few months and ran a Bn. PO across the street from the Mission Church. Then spent some time on the train, mail car, going from Chinwantao to Peiping, some fun but boring as hell till the tracks would get blown up.
Let me hear from you some time. If I ever learn all the tricks of this machine I have some neat snaps of both Guam and Tientsin.be glad to share with you.
