Why the ball goes so straight with Joe's Swing

Stand up straight with your entire body facing 3 o'clock or at a 90 degree angle from an imaginary target (12 o'clock).

Forget about everything but your shoulders and hips. At this time your body is facing perfectly square or,in other words, your entire left side is pointing to the target.

Move your shoulders around or rotate them to the left, you'll see that as you move - your left side starts to point to the left of the target, the more you move, the more left your body goes. This is why (with most other swings) the club is only square to the target for a few inches (at best). Joe's swing is square to the target from 12-18 inches.

Now take the same stance and this time keep your shoulders square but twist or rotate your hips 45 degrees right or to the 7:30 position. Hold the hips as tight in this position as possible for this metric.

Here's the key:

The more you retain the twist, turn, hold (what ever you want to call it) of the hips to 7:30 - the more the shoulders cannot move or rotate to the left. Try it. Twist your hips to the right (to their maximum @ 7:30) and try to rotate your shoulders to the left, they will not move even an inch.

There is no other golf swing that has the club in the target plane (12 o'clock) as long as Joe's swing. Every other swing allows for rotation. Once the hips rotate the entire body rotates. Once the hands swing around the body on the follow through they pull the shoulders and hips.

Pros can control this to an extent. Amateurs cannot control rotation. If they could the average golf score would not be so dismal.

I know of no golfer who enjoys playing a poor shot. Poor Golf is a Gift. Good Golf is Acquired. Although I love this game I hate missed shots.

One last note. Regardless of your swing you can save a lot of strokes on the course by learning to sink every 6 foot putt. When putting put 90% of your weight on your left foot, press the right palm squarely against the grip with the palm/wrist joint square to the blade. Place the ball on you inseam and move your hands 4 inches ahead of the ball, creating reverse loft and putt with your right elbow. The short game stance with Joe's swing is the follow through position of the lower body on the long game. Use the same grip, no finger down the shaft, that's a lot of wasted effort. Elbow back 2-4 inches, then forward 4-6 inches - hold the hands tight. Your right palm/wrist joint is the blade of the club. Putt this way and you'll drop a lot of strokes. It's all in the book and video. The reverse loft causes over spin all by itself. It's a lot easier to putt with a blade putter.

Oh yea, one last thing. Cup your hands so the toe of the putter is in the air. My other posts explain how to do this.

I once asked my Grandfather about golf clubs. His answer was clear. Better to have a good swing with cheap golf clubs that a cheap swing with great golf clubs. I’ve not met a golfer yet who liked missing a shot. With so many playing poorly it truly is a wonder why people invest millions into merchandise and so little in their swing.
