Position 1
Ah yes this most difficult to understand position yet it is so simple when you get there it will be like everything else you have learned in life when you said “ How is it this was so easy” So let’s get you to this most important position. If you can’t get to position 1 you can’t get to vertical (something we’ll talk about later)
• 1st clear your mind of everything. Throw away all chatter and breathe deeply for a few minutes so you can relax. This is most important because unless your mind and body are relaxed you will not be able to feel the body move.
• Now that you are relaxed put both feet and legs together with a little pressure so they will hold their position.
• Please forget about the swing – forget about everything – just come along with me on this venture to get to position 1
• You’re standing at attention – shoulders straight – do not turn the hips or anything – no presets – just stand at attention with your legs and feet together with a little bend in the knees. Ok are we there yet. Yes
• Drop your left arm to your side and forget about. Position 1 is for the right arm – once you get it the left follows
• Now tuck your right elbow into your waistline – tuck it in until it yells.
• Keeping your right elbow tucked in hold your right arm out as if you want to shake someone’s hand. KEEP THE RIGHT ELBOW TUCKED IN!!!!!
• Your right arm must be parallel to the ground and level. You’re not addressing the ball – you’re holding your hand out to shake hands with your forearm level and parallel to the ground and your right elbow is punching into your waist.
• Keeping the right arm level and parallel with the elbow into the waist slowly move the back of the right hand to 6:00 O’clock. 12:00 is the target, 3:00 is the shake of the hand and 6:00 is the opposite of 12:00.
• Rotate the forearm in a circle keeping the right elbow tucked into the right waist as the right elbow circles the waist so the forearm can get to 6:00.
• Don’t shift the right arm back inside trying to get to this position.
• You’ll find that you will only be able to move your right arm a few inches before the lower body starts to add. Once this happens start all over again.
• You’ll find that the right forearm can only move several inches around before the right elbow moved behind your waist – GO back and start again.
• Position 1 is when the right forearm is level with the ground while circling around the waist to complete the first half circle in the Joe Norwood golf swing.
• When you are able to complete this ½ circle then start again and instead of a flat handshake – turn the right hand 45 degrees to the left or down and do the same exercise
• When you can do the above fold your hand back to it’s maximum and do the same exercise.
• When you can do the above then grip a golf ball and do the same exercise and you will have achieved position 1 with a sealed right wrist.
• Keep doing these metrics with the right only 10-20-30-50 times a day until your right hand is sealed and you get to position one without moving your body. Then slightly open your stance and read Joe’s book, buy the video and read my past posts and you will be on your way to hitting a straight golf ball.
