Teach Your Children Well

I went to the range with my son (37) and Jack the Bear (6) and Mat (Choochie)(5) for their lessons. My son learned this swing 20 years ago and it's amazing how well he has kept it up since he doesn't really play. He's into it more now because Bear and Choochie are loving it.

I've been teaching small children 3-8 for over 10 years now and when I was working with the boys the local pro came by and was watching as Said " Great idea with the chalk " so I thought I would put it up on this forum since it is still fresh on my mind.

Children do not know where to put there feet or as we call it " Take their stance " so many years ago I would set the child up in their stance and chalk around their feet ( at least 1-2 inches wider than their feet ) and tell them to put there feet in the holes before they would take a swing. This is a real good way of getting the child in the correct stance every time rather than having them just step up and swing the club.

I also put a ball behind their right heel and my son had a talk with Bear and Choochie and reminded them how they played " Connect the dots " This is my sons way of telling children how to take an inside backswing. He is a 5th grade teacher and has great understanding about how to communicate with children.

Have your kids hold onto the club tight and don't worry about anything else. Let them throw balls into the range every once in a while and give them goals. Bear and Choochies goals were to get 10 good hits for a Slurpy.

Enjoy your kids and have fun at the range and stay away from telling them what to do – just plant their feet – give them some kind of grip – connect the points to their right heel – help them feel the right arm swinging and let them have fun and if they only want to hit 10 balls then say it’s Ok and go and have a Slurpy.

All the best.
