Response to Let's play What If..........M/K as partners |
| Oh,boy! Are the M/K fans on this forum psychically linked, or what? I was thinking of starting just such a discussion. I come to the forum board and someone else has posted a message on the subject. Far out! Just to make one thing clear, I love the character Dana Scully, and wouldn't want the show without her, but in many ways, Alex Krycek would be better for Mulder. Has Scully really helped Mulder, made his life easier and happier, or made it harder? I've been pondering the subject for weeks now, ever since watching the episode from Hell, the one that ended the series for me. Mulder might not have put himself into quite so much danger with a partner who could truly stand up to him, someone at least as strong as himself physically. I'm not saying that Scully is weak, but she's petite, and we know that she cannot or will not prevent Mulder from running off on any wild goose chase he cares to pursue. Alex might have been able to. Also, Mulder might not have ended up in the Loony bin with Alex on his side. I think that he deeply needs someone to believe in him, to take him seriously. Scully never has. She loves him, but her love is rather condescending, and that hurts Mulder at times. Scully represents the disbelieving world that Mulder is fighting. Yes, she forced him to organize his thoughts, to attempt to find proof that would pass muster. But her constant disbelief must have been draining. I cannot see Mulder and Scully as romantic partners. They are totally wrong for each other in so many ways. CC said that they would never get together, then bowed to the MSR faction, in a moment of disastrous weakness. How can they make each other happy? Yes, they love and care for each other. That doesn't mean that they are suited to spend the rest of their lives living together. What if CC had been very courageous and decided to carry on from the kiss in The Red and the Black? Would the anger from the MSR crowd have lowered the ratings enough to kill the show? Would The X-Files have gotten higher ratings because of the controversy factor, the way Ellen did at first. There are lots of popular shows with gay characters now. It's hardly Earth shattering any more.I don't think that either DD or NL would have balked at the idea of M and K having a relationship. K was always a grey character, and he could easily have been turned to the side of the angels. Mulder, Scully and Krycek worked together very well in several episodes. Perhaps one of the reasons DD was unhappy with the show the last few years, was the way that they characters didn't really grow and develop. I think he was bored with Mulder's character, and making him gay or bisexual, and giving him a relationship with a character like Krycek would have cured that. | |
