Clio's point about Mulder's behaviour in "Tooms" supports the idea that M needs a partner who believes in him. I think that his behaviour arises from the knowledge that no one truly does. Well, okay the Lone Gunmen do, but even Mulder thinks they're loony. And they're off in their own little Hacker world, not working with M everyday on his cases. But suppose he had a partner/lover who believed in him and supported him, and then who said something like: Look, I believe you, but these people don't. So what? Just work around it. Getting Tooms in prison is the most important thing, not your ego, right? Don't let the bastards grind you down! Scully just rolls her eyes, sighs and says: Mulder! You're nuts! Which may or may not be true, but hardly helps. | |
