Suppose just for a moment that CC had decided to let Krycek remain as Mulder's partner, or one of his partners at least, along with Scully. Now, also imagine that CC had decided to make Krycek and Mulder lovers as well. It's a stretch I know, but just imagine. I thought perhaps DD and NL wouldn't object. K. thinks they would. But imagine they didn't and the show went ahead with Krycek and Mulder in a relationship. What do you think the public reaction would have been. I know that the 'shippers would have howled, but would that have been enough to destroy the show? Would the controversy have increased the ratings? On many TV programmes, putting two characters into a het relationship has lowered the ratings to a fatal degree. Moonlighting and Lois and Clark spring to mind. Do you think a canon K/M would be boring or so exciting that the show would have entered the stratosphere ratings wise? Do you think that the writers would have known how to handle such a relationship, or would it just have become a stereotyped joke. TV writers in general don't really seem to know how to write about couples. They can handle UST just fine, but as soon as the ST is resolved, they seem bewildered about where to go next. | |
