Most 22-year-olds spend their time attending college classes and enjoying spring breaks, not working as town mayors. But then again, most 22-year-olds do not own and operate their own businesses either.

Ive always been interested in money and how economics work, said Corey Harbison.

Until recently Harbison, 22, who was sworn in as the mayor of Good Hope on Nov. 3, owned and operated Harbison Grocery. He currently owns and operates a landscaping business, which he began when he was still a teenager.

My parents had to drive me around to begin with, Harbison said. Then I started building it up.

For the last six months, Harbison has also patrolled the streets of Hanceville as a police officer.

Born and raised in Good Hope, Harbison attended Good Hope High School and graduated in 2004. Harbison said he decided to run for mayor of Good Hope while he was still involved in school government.

I told my buddies I would run for mayor in 2008, Harbison said. They just laughed at me. And I was kind of nervous about running since I am young. But you wont win if you dont try.

Harbison said he conquered peoples conception about his age by simply going out into the community and talking to as many people as possible.

I just got out and knocked on doors, he said. I told them I can learn the position just as good as anybody else.

Harbison also explained the residents that the town council would help keep him in check.

My power is with the council ... if I make a young mistake, Ive got five city council members who can take away that power, Harbison said. Its not all me ... well make all the decisions together.

Harbison decided to run for mayor because of his love for Good Hope.

I sure hope the new mayor can do something to get rid of this next to nothing cable service that Good Hope has. Alabama Broadband...who ever heard of it? I think a set of rabbit ears is better than that crap.

I remember when he was standing on my porch, excited about all that he wanted to do for Good Hope and how motivated he was in his campaign. I really think this is a young man who is going places with his life. He is positive and he is very honest in dealing with business. He had my vote just from witnessing his day to day dealings.
Corey if you are reading this, YOU GO BOY!!!
I am so proud you did it and if I hadn't moved out of Deer Run and bought a riding lawn mower, I would still have you doing my yard.
You are a really good person and I am so proud of you and having your sign in my yard and those conversations about possibilities that became a reality.
It is really awesome to see it materialize for you and I wish you the best of luck and no you will do a great job.

We live a little farther out of Good Hope. We have had dial up for so long. I think a pigeon delivering webpages would have been faster. We got a really good deal for cable(there are some things I dont like about it) phone service and internet that is "blazing fast". But one thing to remember you get want you pay for.I would gladdly pay for this over again. Its better than dealing with the rude people at direct tv and bellsouth
