That's it though isnt it. It seems younger bands, while they might be talented, havent got anything to say.
You go from "Elizabeth My Dear" to this
What makes Morrissey interesting is he's still got the fire in his belly for the issues he holds dear. And is righteously pissed off and obviously still does have things to say. He's not just writing songs about driving his sports car through Beverley Hills which would be understandable, if a tad boring. Therefore he is one of the great remaining heroes of music, imo. Is it about the money, his hunger?
With the Roses, maybe with all bands, the spark of youth and being in a band, hanging out together has long since gone. It doesnt have to. I reckon if Ian and John, and ideally Mani and Reni, went to a cottage in Wales for a couple of months they would come up with something remarkable. Its whether you view the Roses as a normal kind of band, if such a thing exists, or something on a biblical level where none of the rules apply and their message is so much greater that it gets interesting. Even the silence makes it so. Someone just posted about them being hermits, but that's still interesting.
Maybe the next big thing after bands splitting up, tribute bands, solo acts, is what the bands do when or if they reform. Might be a considerable statement as part of what might be regarded as the Renaissance in music, as Tony Wilson put it. And if they dont, maybe thats a statement too. But Morrissey keeps on keeping on, and for that, we salute him.
