The location of the loss of Jagdtiger 234 of s.Pz.Jg.Abt. 653 has now been identified. The level-crossing where it came to rest and multiple pictures had been taken by passing-by GIs is in actual fact not at Zeiskam, Palatinate, Western Germany, but at Soultz-sous-Fôret, near Wissembourg, Eastern France!
The information about the loss at Zeiskam was found in the diary of a former member of the unit, Uffz. Kohns. Anyway, the place (or the number of the Jagdtiger) are wrong, since 234 definately never made it to Zeiskam, but was lost at an earlier stage of the retreat route.
Thanks to Jean-Léon Gantier, who dug out the picture with the caption "Sultz U. Wald" and Uli Mössner, who came up with the idea this could mean Soultz-sous-Fôret in fact; also Uli managed to get in touch with Pierre-Olivier in France who took comparision shots which leave no doubt about the true location of the loss of Jagdtiger 234.
