To all,

I am in the process of restoring a 1943 USMC jeep ambulance. I have been doing research on this jeep for the last there years. To date I have uncovered the following on this vehicle. Below the drivers side headlight and above the blackout marker light, a red shield with a white cross within the red shield. Above the red shield is a 5 (space) B one inch in height. The red shield is similar to the 5 th Mar Div background shield. To date I have determined that B company, 5 th Medical Bn was assigned to the 27 th Marines, 5 th Mar Div, which is what I think this represents. Additionally, on the windshield outer panel, handpainted in Red is the following;

V AC. (large space so it can be seen with the spare tire mounted on the hood)Med. Bn., I believe this respresents V Marine Amphibious Corps, Med. Bn. represents Medical Battalion.

My goal is to have this restoration completed by Aug 08 and to display this ambjeep at the Military Vehicle Preservation Association convention in Portland,Oregon.

First of all, am I on track with my thinking about the representations ? Secondly, I am trying to determine the USMC TAC markings for B co, 5 th Med Bn, 27 Marines, 5 th Mar Div. Should there be a segmented rectangle indicating the 5 th Mar Div and would the appropiate numbers within the rectangle be 233.

Thankyou for any assistance with this restoration,

FSteele
