My name is Carol and I have been researching my Grandfathers
Military
Records, letters and such since 1993. I have two Goals. One is
to have his
Head Stone changed to Mst. Sgt. and the other to contact someone
who can help
me research a person who may have been with my Grandfather in
Turkey, June of
1994. Their plane was hit by flak and went down over Eulissis
Greece, Dec.
20, 1943. One crew member, Nahila, was captured on an Island
and held POW
till the end of the war. All the other crew members made it
back ok, but my
Grandfather, William Buell Was MIA till June. His injuries kept
him from
traveling. He stayed with some wonderful Andarties who took
good care of him
and got him to Turkey. I have his uniform and all his medals.
I do beleive
that an aid wasn't in the room when General Twining promoted him
or paper
work got lost. His discharge papers read T. Sgt. I know these
type of
things happened all the time. Other crew members also beleive
he was a Mstr.
Sgt.
This all started in 1993 when my Grandmother wanted me to see if
we could
have the head stone changed. I have alot of research. Any OSS
info I can
get, I'd really appreciate. But my main goal is to have the
Head Stone
changed before she, Helen Buell passes on. She is 88 and
remembers alot.
This goal she remembers. She has cancer and we don't know how
long she has.
Already had surgery, but couldn't get it all. Anyway, I am
doing what I can
and maybe you can help. Hope I didn't bore you.\
