I chose a donor who seemed, from her profile and those who knew her personally, as a genuinely "nice" person. If my daughter and I ever do get the chance to meet her (which I'd like), I'd simply expect her to be friendly and warm... certainly not to have a "relationship" with my daughter in any way; just a nice person to say "thank you" to. I cycled in South Africa where the remuneration is limited to the equivalent of 700 U.S. dollars, so she hardly got paid anything, btw. I think it was very generous of her to do this. But even if she had gotten paid more, that wouldn't affect my decision one bit (about whether I wanted my child to have the opportunity to meet her). It's not a "bad" thing to want to donate for the money; most women wouldn't do it if they didn't receive compensation. I think the compensation is fair; not something I begrudge at all.
