Starting at around 39. I got pregnant at 37 with my own eggs after several years of trying and had a perfect baby. Then when I went for #2 I kept m/cing. I had a late term loss we knew was chromosomal at around 40. At that point we knew my eggs were not good but I kept waiting for the golden one. I did all the dietary, supplements, no alcohol or coffee for years, and saw one of the top acupuncturists but at this point I was no longer getting pregnant...where as after my first child I was getting pregnant and miscarrying almost ever cycle I tried. One RE said we know your eggs are not good but we don't know if there's anything else. I finally did a donor egg cycle, put in one emby and it worked! I was one of the lucky ones but it sure proved to me that it was my eggs all along. In retrospect I wished I listened to the REs who had recommended DE years earlier, it would have saved not only money but heartbreak. I didn't do anything extra on the DE cycle. No herbs, no bed rest, nothing. I've had a few younger friends who have had amazing results with diet changes and acup. but I don't think theirs is an egg issue. So from what I understand: if the eggs are damaged you can't do anything to correct that. Chinese medicine looks at things differently and feel that since the body recruits the egg 3 month prior to ovulation the environment its in during that time (miosis?) can effect the outcome. Sorry there's no easy answers - in my experience (and in my opinion) the odds the REs give you are about right and some people are lucky enough to land on the right side of the odds. Acupuncture and all the alternatives probably help up the odds somewhat but they are no golden ticket. There was one study on IVF that showed acupuncture upped the odds 25% but that was for all patients. Good luck.
oh I forgot. The Chinese Herbs did wonders for my DH sperm. He was lame about making it to the appts to be needled so I am attributing it more to the herbs. |
