Actually a month shy of my 49th birthday. It helped that I had no major health problems going into the process, although I did have some mild arthritis in my feet. As long as your health is generally good, your BMI is normal or near, and you get adequate exercise to keep your legs, abdominals, and back strong, you should be fine.
As for the cultural head trip on older motherhood, you're just going to have to make like a duck and let it wash off your back. It's none of anyone's business when and how you decide to have kids.
