I welcome anyone who disagrees with me, as I have many close friends who do NOT go to therapy some friends who don't believe in medication for depression.
But in many cases it does help.
As for meds, its a longer process, it takes sometimes two weeks to affect a mood. Sometimes you have to build the dose. And you need to have a doctor who is hands on, because in many ways you and doctor have to work together to start to say "hey this med is working" or "hey nothing is happening"
I am sorry that your husband resists counseling and the idea of giving it a real try. I feel terrible for you. because I feel marriage deserves the largest effort we have as human beings, I really do. And I don't know if your DH is not capable at this time due to depression or is not willing.
I do know my DH did not call the Psychiatrist during his worst spell he just didn't care enough, he had hit bottom.
But I called and he DID go. about 4 days on the meds a different man was in my house. It was wonderful.
