about surrogacy out of U.S. we are both NOT travelers and financially forget about it...BUT we are now starting thinking that surrogacy may be the way to go after many, many years of infertility, BFN's & m/c's.
There may be many roadblocks for us that might suggest this isn't going to work out and one main reason is not only needing egg donor But also a sperm donor?? dh has severe male factor but heck you never know we may be able to get one or two sperm...also, we do not travel I have balance/coordination problems with being on a plane, so we were thinking of the reproductive place in Mexico so this way we may be able to travel from the east coast to west coast either by car or train.
ANY information, advice, opinions or input would be so very appreciated.
Thank you so very Much!!! |

There was a woman who is with the Foreign Service on the list a few months back, and she made some statements that I thought were needlessly anxiety-provoking, not around surrogacy, but around using DE/DS if the mom gave birth while living overseas and then needed to bring the child back to the U.S. When I checked w/my sister, who is also Foreign Service, she confirmed everything that poster had said. They suggested that a woman in such a position come back to the States to delivery. I was floored; it seemed so inhumane, but then both my sister and the poster pointed out how this was meant to prevent human trafficking, and I'm still having nightmares thinking about the implications of that.
I don't know whether surrogacy destinations such as India and Ukraine have provisions for PBO's or expedited adoption that could overcome that. If the poster I mention is still around, maybe she'll respond. Otherwise, I would consult an attorney in the field. I do know that a friend of mine who is single and is on these boards looked at foreign surrogacy and decided it was unmanageable for that reason.
It seems so unfair: you have a working uterus; you get on a plane and fly to someplace like the Czech Republic and get pg w/DE+DS, as I did, come back and have the baby on U.S. soil, no problem. No working uterus, another woman carries the child overseas, problem.
Take care,
