Talk to me about bed rest or lack thereof (OE ment)

I'm cycling at an out of state clinic and retrieval is tomorrow. It's one day later than expected, which is not a big deal. However the delay screws up my flight schedule as well as my lodging plans (I'd have to move to a hotel from my current rental). My clinic wants me to have 36 hrs of bed rest. If I stick with my travel schedule I'll only be getting 18 hrs of bed rest. I know there isn't any evidence that bed rest makes a difference, but I am nervous about deviating from my doctor's recommendations.

I think I'm going to push ahead with my original plans (and the abbreviated bed rest). My husband and daughter are at home and I miss them. I think it will be more stressful to stay away longer and to have to switch flights and hotels.

I'm looking for success stories despite less-than-ideal bed rest, but if there are cautionary tales, I'll take those too happy.gif Bottom line: I don't want to mess up this cycle.

For those of you who have been through this, how do you retain any sanity during the home stretch? I'm so sick of this process that I want to be done already. I even am thinking that we should just transfer 2 embies to give us the best chance and counteract any negative effects of my getting on a plane 18 hrs after transfer. I most likely won't go that route (we strongly prefer a singleton) but I'm getting less rational the closer we get to retrieval + transfer.

My experience (preg ment)

My clinic required twenty four hours bedrest. I was also cycling put of state. I did 21 hours due to travel plans. I'll be 15 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Good luck!

You should be fine Preg Mtd

I didn't do any bed rest, in fact I have a toddler that I was taking care of so I did the opposite of bed rest! I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and I did a single embryo transfer, so I think you will be just fine. Good Luck!

I stayed in bed that afternoon and then flew the next morning

Didn't do the full 24 hours. One thing I was careful with was luggage. I only had a very light carry-on bag. Lifting is frowned upon. Good luck to you!

Don't worry . . .

My clinic didn't require any bed rest except for the half-hour or so they kept you in the waiting room for transfer patients. They just said to take it easy for 24 hrs and not to lift anything over 5 lbs during my 2ww (which I also couldn't manage due to travel).

I'm actually surprised we're still having so much conversation about bed rest now, because the studies coming out near the time of my successful cycle suggested that bed rest not only did not improve success rates, they seemed to be higher without it. Did new studies come out?

I'm not sure I did retain any sanity, so I can't comment. I did wait 48 hours before flying, but that was an overseas flight. You know, I adore my twins, especially as it would have been very hard to try for a sibling, but having two same-age children, especially boys, does detract from the parenting experience you desire (and you're used to) and makes it harder to give your children the attention they need. If you already have a child, think hard before deviating from your plans for ESET.

Good luck in all!

My clinic recommendss no bed rest. (baby ment)

June 22 2012, 10:06 AM

I went on a 3 mile walk the afternoon of my transfer and everyday during my two week wait. I had tons of nervous energy so couldn't sit still. I have my baby from that cycle.

My RE's office does not recommend bed rest. I didn't need to fly anywhere but was told they have women go straight to the airport after transfer and get pregnant. I honesly think moving around may be good for the blood flow so 18 hours sounds like plenty of bed rest to me. Stay away from hot tubs and saunas as you don't want to overheat.

Wishing you luck!

bed rest

C.ornell does not specifically recommend any bed rest either. You should be fine. Drink lots of water and walk around on your flight depending on length of flight and perhaps check in your bag so you're not doing any heavy lifting into the overhead bin. GL!

On sanity and transfer (success ment)

June 22 2012, 10:29 AM

I'm not going to address the bed rest, because you've had plenty of responses on that. On keeping your sanity now and during the 2ww, just try to distract yourself as much as possible. It will probably be easier since you already have a child wink.gif, but I filled the time up as best I could. On how many to transfer, talk to your RE, but you may not actually increase your chances by transferring two. Our RE strongly recommended transferring just one, and he's napping now a few feet away from me.

Good luck and please keep us posted!

Had about 18 hours for my successful cycle

June 22 2012, 2:49 PM

My transfer was late morning, almost noon, on a Monday. I went to work on Tuesday, leaving my house at about 7:30 am. I just started a new job the prior Monday so it was hard enough to finagle a way to take a "work from home" day exactly one week after starting. There was no way to be able to stay home on Tuesday too.

My clinic's post-transfer written instructions still recommend 36 hours of bed rest.

If the transfer is going to work, it will work. If not, no amount of bedrest will help, at least in my experience. I've complied with 36 hours for countless failed transfers in the past.

Best of luck!
