It certainly appears to be an Alloy Casting. I bet its real Crystaline in the crack, if you can get a look at the surfaces. Probably quite a lot of pressure at the Dovetail after tightening up a Mount, so you really need a Good Tough Light type of Material, like an extrusion as you said or made from Aircraft Grade Alloy/Tooling Plate.
