I just rented and watched the first movie "Helter Skelter" that was released on April 1, 1976. This is a documentary-style movie. It re-enacted some of the interviews with the killers and showed clips and pictures from the news and the newspapers as it had run during the initial investigation period and following years. It also re-enacted the event of Susan Atkins when she talked to her prison mate about the killings. This movie did not portray that the baby had been cut from his mother so this cannot be the source of the misconception. This movie actually very literally shows, in the re-enacting of Susan's prison mate, that Susan didn't cut the baby out, but that she had wanted to but couldn't because she didn't have time. This movie proves to have depicted this event quite accurately based on consistency.
I will be seeing the second "Helter Skelter" which was released in 1988, in the next week and will update my findings again soon. After this, I will see the 3rd and final "Helter Skelter" which was released in 2004.
