The Meteor production line having temporarily ground to a halt (I forgot to Future the canopies at the start of the project, so now everthing is stalled for a couple of days while they cure), I thought Id take a look at the Bedford QL tanker. First, here are a couple of spruce shots:
Note that the bottom sprue in the second photo shows the chssis frames for both the Bedford and AEC tankers.
For parts that come from a set of tols almost 40 years old, and which have been in continuous use since then, except during the 1980s, theyre pretty cleanly moulded.
The min work will be removing the refuelling booms on top of the tank and their associated equipment. As has been noted, these are a post-war feature. Ill then need to fill gaps in the tank roof, and make a circular central cap for it. With luck, therell be something suitable in the spares box. The pumping and pipework at the rear of the tank will also need modifying as the kit comes, its set up to deliver fuel to those two roof-top booms. Minor work will include thinning down the mudguards/ wheel arches and glazing the drivers cab. The drivers cb could do with a steering wheel, especially as you can pose the doors open. The doors themselves cold do with thinning down as they ae, they look as if theyre made from 4 armour plate and the front wheels offset at an angle.
Colour scheme will be overall SCC.2 (a dark brown, darker than Dark Earth) with black tops to the cab and tank, and Mickey Mouse-ear camo.
Off to the spares box
Cheers,
Chris.
