I have been building so many Great War airplanes lately, that I needed some relief. I have been counting struts in my sleep. A trip to my "Happy Place" was long overdue. Here is my recipe for sanity, a "Quickie-build". I took a recent reissue of the Airfix 1/72 A6M2(1959 tooling) and finished it with the stock decals from the current new tool of the same aircraft.
The model is almost OOB. I added a seat from the scrap-box, drilled out the wing 20mm. cannon ports, and consigned Pilot-san to his honorable ancestors in the trash can. Note: the reissue decals are the same markings as found in the original Monogram issue of their 1/48 A6M5 in the 1960s.
I left the hole in the drop tank to put it on its stand, which was not in the reissue, but furnished from my box of extras. I brush-painted the entire model freehand with Xtracolor IJN Green and IJN Gray and Humbrol for the aotake in the wheel wells and the ID leading-edge strips. I trimmed all of the seams and filled the little gaps with white glue. Total build time was 5 hours.I photographed it with my i-Phone. Adios, Larry
