EL CAJON, Calif. -- An airplane went off the runway at Gillespie Field on Sunday, according to Heartland Fire and Rescue.
The incident occurred just after 1 p.m. on the 27 Right runway. The aircraft went off the north side of the runway as it was landing, according to Heartland Fire. The plane was participating in the "Wings Over Gillespie" air show.
Rich Kenney, a spokesman for the air show, said the plane's landing gear collapsed. Kenney said the plane was a one-of-a-kind British aircraft called a Fairey Firefly.
The pilot -- who was the only one onboard -- was able to get out safely. No injuries were reported.
Kenney said the airplane was not a total loss.

The pilot is fine, the aircraft will be rebuilt.
