Adversary!

Here is what happened in the latest days.

I scratched a vague cockpit.

I then assembled the whole thing: As you can see, I just replaced the cabane struts with thinner stretched sprue, and the underwing gun pods with those of a BF109, heavily sanded to shape. I would have pulled a new canopy, but I preferred to use the kit one, that allowed me to superglue it down and sand it perfectly blended with the fuselage.

The thing after a good coat of primer (some of the flaws that popped out were later fixed)

The cowling was the worst part of a bad kit, being totally uncorrect in shape (cylinder instead of barrel). I just replaced the bulges and engraved the exhaust places. I would not bother scratching a new engine: this is not worth the effort with such a hopeless kit. Before and after.

Plane Talking guys sentenced that this was most likely painted in stadard Temperate Sea Scheme, and that will be. However, they raised an issue about which propeller, two or three bladed...I'll chose a three blades, just because I like it best and it better hides the so-called engine...Accuracy...oh well...

Great, Massimo!

It's really coming along. The cockpit is a lot more than was there in the first place. I hope you saved his head.

I like the reworked cowling. The bulges suggest the correct thing and the sanding on the cowling is better than a cylinder.

It will be very worthy of your skills when done! Three bladed prop...just fine.

Keep it up!

Dan From Tacoma, Washington USA

Can you imagine what a nightmare to smooth the seam on the forehead?

Looking very good...

In fact I was thinking, that doesn't look as such a bad kit - but that's your talent, a true master can make things look easy while they are not

I like the control stick, and in the picture it looks big, but I know this is a small cockpit, so it was micro surgery work I believe happy.gif

Great work with the cowling, people will think this is the Heller or Matchbox Gladiator !

I'm about to order one but I'm still on the fence.....

July 2 2009, 5:18 PM

However, I'm sure when you get paint on it and I see what magic you have worked, I will cave then and order...
Some of these kits are easier than others but fun all in all...

HyperScale's Group Build Guidelines

The objective of this Group Build is to encourage as many modellers as possible to build their kits and share their progress via words and photos on this Forum.

You are welcome to post general construction tips or relevant reference information and photos to this Forum too.

This Group Build will feature Airfix kits.

  1. Build as many kits as you like

  2. Conversions, aftermarket and scratchbuilding are all permitted.

  3. Any markings are acceptable.

  4. Document your progress and do a write-up on your build - where did you have trouble, what improvements did you make, what markings did you choose and why? It would be GREAT if everyone would do a writeup and submit it to HyperScale as a Feature Article.
