Meteor airframe construction is complete. Fit of parts was pretty good for a limited-run kit. The white bits you can see on the models in this piccy is filler (Tippex, often 2 or 3 layers) but nothing really to write home about, and some of it my fault. The fit of some parts, both large (tailpane assembly to tailfin) and small (gunsight to coaming) was really very good indeed.



The white metal gear and seat really does make a difference. The detil on the ger isnt much better than the detail on the kit parts (which is pretty good) but the location of the main gear legs to the u/c bays is much more secure, and the nose gear adds usefully to the nose weight I did box the nose gear bay in with 10 thou pc.

Likewise the seat. Its better-detailed than the kit part, and includes both cushions and straps. It doesnt include bang handles, which I added from 5-amp fuse wire. It also adds usefully to the nose weight.



As you can see, the seat pretty much fills the cockpit tub, and you cant see much more of the detail there once its in.

This morning I masked the canopies (which are very thin and clear), and cemented them in place with white glue. Im now waiting for this to dry and set before applying the grey undercoat.

The thing in the red tray at the top right-hand corne of the top picky, btw, it the upper half of the Bedford QL tankers fuel tank, with the attachment points for the fuel booms removed and filled in with plastic card. So far, Ive also thinned down the mudguards and made the large circular filler cap. I found a 1/35 Vickers 6-ton tank road wheel in the spares box which, with only slight modification, lookedjust the part.

Looks like you needed filler in the same places where I needed filler on mine, so it's more likely due to the kit than both of us.

As I've said before (and now you have as well!), to anyone out there who has the kit, treat it like a good limited run model and you won't be disappointed.

BTW, I also tried to use the stencils from the kit decals and I gave up...

short nacelle fronts is pretty faultless, which makes painting the nacelle fronts off-model much easier.

I love it seeing this kit getting build... it's a little bit out of the Airfix realm, but still allowed - what makes it all so interesting, in my opinion anyway
