Apart from one armour piece, everything I've built this year has been Airfix 1/72 scale for the SAMI 'Circuits and Bumps' series.

You did us all a great pleasure and Airfix a mighty favour with Bumps and Circuits.

To tell the truth, I had stopped buying SAMI until I discovered your series of articles. In most issues I bought, your article was the only reason. Really superb work and an inspiration. Thank you.

G'day Mike................cool and clean AIRFIX builds there M8!

December 31 2011, 5:15 PM

G'day Mike,

Nice to see the old AIRFIX kit builds come to life. Bet it tests all your skills there? What think is important is we all don't loose the thrill of turning an old kit clunker into something special. I thinks its more rewarding and skillful than just stick'n brass and slapp'n a coat of paint on a $50 kit. Just my thoughts. Would like to see some of those old Airfix multi-engine jobs in SAMI; Just a New Years wish.

Have fun always.........and build build build!

PHIL

December 31 2011, 8:37 PM

Turning the old rudimentary kits into absolute gems !

Wish I can see them in person -- I'm sure the photos, as great as they are, aren't doing the builds justice !

Well done, Mike ! Have a Happy New Year !

Cheers . . . John

You could have said "Wingnut" for the Albatross and I'd believe you! Those builds are gorgeous - I like the Skyray too.

Mike,

I follow your builds in SAMI. I love the way you give life to old and cheap kits. Scale modelling is all about skills and elbow grease...

Are your custom decals available to us, mere mortals?

Cheers,

Patrick

Marvelous

January 1 2012, 6:15 PM

I'm happy to see your work here again Mike, really great builds and it's always a joy to read your articles in SAMI - and with a great taste for exotic schemes - thank you for this !

My favorite is the Albatros, just amazing what you did with this basic starved looking kit, making it look like a real Albatros - wow big time !

I hope you will never get tired of doing magic with these old Airfix kits

You never cease to amaze me Mr. Grant

January 1 2012, 6:46 PM

You continually inspire me with what you can do to kits most people wouldn't pay for if they were in the $1 bin at the LHS. Thanks to you, those kind are all I've been collecting up over the last few months happy.gif

HyperScale's Group Build Guidelines

The objective of this Group Build is to encourage as many modellers as possible to build their kits and share their progress via words and photos on this Forum.

You are welcome to post general construction tips or relevant reference information and photos to this Forum too.

This Group Build will feature Airfix, Frog and Matchbox kits.

  1. Build as many kits as you like

  2. Conversions, aftermarket and scratchbuilding are all permitted.

  3. Any markings are acceptable.

  4. Document your progress and do a write-up on your build - where did you have trouble, what improvements did you make, what markings did you choose and why? It would be GREAT if everyone would do a writeup and submit it to HyperScale as a Feature Article.
