One man Spitfire group build...part 2

Guys,

not a lot has gone on in all honesty - I've been a bit too busy with my new job, but some progress has been made.

Here's where I had a bit of trouble with the wing fit on the first new tools spitfire MK1...nothing a bit of plasticard couldn't cope with - seems to have sharpened it up nicely...

[linked image]

and here's the same on the second one....

[linked image]

Not much sanding or filling to do on these new ones, or the old tool MK 1a - they seem to go together very well.

Nearly finished scribing one of the Vb's, but unfortunately became over confident of my abilities after too much falling over juice one night, and managed somehow to scribe the wing tips incorrectly on one side....never mind fun experiments with superglue as a filler will undoubtedly follow soon - either that or I'll leave it as a lesson to me for the future, and a reminder it's probably not a good idea to mix sharp implements with milk of amnesia.

The Vb's seem to need a lot more work on the wing roots than the others, but are sanding quite nicely with the sprue filler, and although the shape of the wing root isn't quite the same as the others, it's getting there. Seems to me that the wing root is a bit higher on the fuselage on these, because there doesn't seem to be much in the ming section or shape between the three mouldings. Either that or it's me being particularly useless.

So nearly finished getting them all ready for paint - just looking for a nice warm weekend where I can use the lovely uncluttered space that is my Dad's double garage to start painting them with the airbrush. Always find it confusing when people either have a car in the garage or it's empty - seems like a waste of space that should be occupied by landrovers or exotic italian engies or old british motorbikes in bits...either that or full of instruments for a garage band!!!!! Still, can't complain, at least it gives me a place to work, which is more than I can do in mine.

Hurricane has made a few steps forward as well. New zorsts have arrived, together with the Sky decals sheet for over 30 Hurricanes. I think I will be adding some Hurri Kits to my birthday list, as these decals look very nice indeed.

Also started to hatch a slightly differnt project once I have got this little lot sorted, but more of that anon.

Cheers,

Eddie

on my Mac with Firefox. While I can right-click to get the URL, copy and paste into the the address bar and to to go to Photobucket to see the pictures, it would be better next time if you copy the "Direct Link" address into the post rather than the "Email & IM" link, e.g.:

And I thought I had a large flock of birds on my bench at a time. I look forward to see your finished effortys. Adios, Larry.

What a collection - I find it already difficult to finish one model, this is just epic

All the best !

Probably your inspiration William...

...If I remember you had about 6 109's on the go at one time, and I found it interesting you comparing the different makes etc.

This is just really an extention of that, trying different things on the same model to see what works best for me, and hopefully learn something along the way, as you probably know I'm a recent returner to this lark, and I thought it would be a good way of getting up to speed and finding out what works for me.

In fact When I finish these, that will more than double the amount of completed models for me over the last 4 years, so it's a bit of a chance to experiment, compare and contrast, and really I should be finished by now, but I'm having too much fun trying different things.

So far I've lerned that I don't really like filler very much, and that I do like the frustration of sticking tiny bits of plastic together and scratching stuff, and that I fear airbrushing.

Thanks for the kind comments,

Cheers,

Eddie

HyperScale's Group Build Guidelines

The objective of this Group Build is to encourage as many modellers as possible to build their kits and share their progress via words and photos on this Forum.

You are welcome to post general construction tips or relevant reference information and photos to this Forum too.

This Group Build will feature Airfix, Frog and Matchbox kits.

  1. Build as many kits as you like

  2. Conversions, aftermarket and scratchbuilding are all permitted.

  3. Any markings are acceptable.

  4. Document your progress and do a write-up on your build - where did you have trouble, what improvements did you make, what markings did you choose and why? It would be GREAT if everyone would do a writeup and submit it to HyperScale as a Feature Article.
