As I Read All The Responses My Original Question Has Elicited, It Made Me Think About How Far RPG's Have Come, Especially Concerning Villians. Many RPG's, (Especially Square) Have Created Such Good Villians That We End Up Debating Over Whether Or Not That Character Was A Villian. And Why? Because These Villians Have Personality, And Motivation. They Have Become More Then Mindless Beings Bent On Domination, They Have Reasons For What They Do. Some, Like Kefka, Are As Simple As Insanity. Others, Like Magus, Are As Complex As The Desire For Revenge After What They have Had Taken From Them. Others Are Driven Because Of Their Love, Much Like Ghaleon. And Ultimetly, This Is What Makes An RPG So Enjoyable. Because Just as The Hero Makes A Good Story, So Does The Villian. Whether A Kefka, Magus, Ghaleon, Or ID, These Villians Shape The Story.
I still say Magus is more of an Anti-Hero then a Villain. And Sephiroth was just a puppet of Jenova (hell, everyone was...) but Jenova was acting from pure maliciousness (Weaken the planet, get Seph to summon a meteor, wham, everything dies and the planet blows up)

Once Again, Webbie, It All Comes Down To What you Define A Villian. For Example, Some Would Classify Lavos A Villian. I Didnt, Because Lavos Showed No Signs Whatsoever Of Thought. All That Was Known Was That Lavos Destroyed The World By Feeding Off It. Therefore, Lavos Wasnt Evil Because It Was Following Its Natural Lines Of Survival. Much Like One Cannot Call A Wolf Evil For Killing A Deer To Eat, One Could Not Call Lavos Evil For Feeding Off A Planet.
However, One Could Easily Call Magus A Villian, Because As It Has Been Stated, He Was Willing To Do ANYTHING To Achieve His Goals. He Felt Totally Justified In Using And Sacraficing Others To Achieve His Revenge, Even If That Ment Destroying The Planet In The Process. Sure, He Did Help Chrono And The Others, But Only Because It Fit His Needs. If They Were Unusable, He Would Have Discarded Them. This Total Disregard For Others To Suit His Own Needs Is Why I Classify Him As Villian.
But, Once Again, It All Comes Down To Ones Opinion's And Definitions Of Villians. Just Like One Could Say ID Wasnt So Really A Villian And Fei Wasnt Really A Good Guy Because Of Their Relationship.

Lavos is shown to have thought throughout the entire game of Chrono Cross- the Frozen Flame itself (which is part of Lavos) communicated telepathically. It also pulls Chronopolis back in time as a 'saftey measure' - Lavos can think. Just because it's a big spikey ball doesnt mean it's not cunning.

Spikey balls thinking . . .
I wonder if it ever thought-- "Gee, maybe I shouldn't piss off this Magus dude-- he DID come all the way through time to kick my ass . . ."
Or maybe-- "Gee, that grinning kid floating in the air is casting some sort of spell . . . I wonder if it will be friends with me?" ^_^
I haven't gotten to that part of Chrono Cross yet, so maybe my perception will change then, but it seemed to me that this big planet-destroying beast was taking it pretty easy on my very mortal three-member party. I mean, all he'd have to do is SIT on us and we'd be dead, right?
Wouldn't it be cute if the programmers had put something like that in there? Like, the 10th time you were trying to win the game, Lavos would grunt and roll over on your party, killing you all?
