Nah, I don't think Gildward is an archer. I'd say what I think he is, but I think that Daryll will probably say what I'm guessing in a very excited post.
Excal, who'd rather have the legendary sword, especially after all the arrows made out of it have been used up.
It turns out someone else sent the message to both of 'em to... set a trap? Get them outta the way? Etc...
Karashi's better off with Drecker or the guy from Evil U. anyway.

One flaw in that theory
February 6 2001, 10:13 PM
Nice theory there. But there's one gaping flaw in it. Who'd want to take out those two? I mean, even though Karashi is probably very useful in combat, she never really seems to be in the party. And the Bard, well he's a Bard. Why not trap Ardam or Karn instead? I mean, Karn will probably be too foolish to notice a trap, and Ardam won't care as he's getting attention.
Someone wants to take out Karashi before it occurs to any of the Adventurers! how good she is in combat.
And...um...okay, the theory falls flat with the bard. I mean, it has been proven that, in Adventurers! cannon, a bard can just be poked and become...'fainted'.
It could be Eternion, because he'd want to wipe the Melody of Finate for the face of 'this world', and he'd bring one of the party because it's just his style to have a little challenge.
It could be just a romance plot, no tricks, just an extra twist... There's always at least ONE romance in an rpg. (or several girls after the same guy)

It /could/ be just a romance...

But where's the fun in that?
Anyway, any conspiracy to kill the bard is kind of odd, since they could just poke him...unless they're trying to get Karashi to do it so they don't have any dirt on their hands.
But no, my conspiracy theory is that the bard is trying to attack Karashi!Don't hurt me, Daryl! *runs and hides*
Of course, it'll probably fail if he's setting upo the conspiracy. *runs faster, tossing a shiny nickel to distract Daryl*

And what else does this include?

Besides, I'd think of an arrow as pretty phallic. But then, I have a really sick mind. : p
(As for harps being "sissy," that's not what all of the undead monsters said when I had four singing party members in FFV after finding the Requiem! Well, actually they didn't say anything; they just kind of gurgled and fell over. I mean, they're undead. They CAN'T say too much, can they?)

And Mad Monarchs.

*wonders if anyone on this board will know what she's talking about* ^_^;
Well I'm talking your basic main-hero weapons of big swords and big guns
February 7 2001, 2:00 PM
Bows and arrows are the weapons of the guy hanging back out of the fight, so that's what I gave this persona.

A couple things.
February 7 2001, 2:24 PM
One it is around Valentines Day, so a "just romance" thing is quite possible.
Two if you don't the possbile fun/humor then either your not looking or you have a poor imagination.
Three I'd look into a faster mode of travel than running.

But can't the weapons of the guy who stays out of the frey also be classified as the weapons of a sissy? I mean, you're just standing back there all nice and safe and sniping while everyone else is risking their butts to defeat the monsters.
That's why I prefer monks if you're going with non-phallic weapons. Strong, can take a beating, nice array of useful abilities and healing powers that almost equal priests. Insanely useful so long as they meet up with their mortal enemy, gently rolling hills.

...Okay, right on all 3 counts there. (N/T)

Looking at an N/T message, then highlighting it...are you kuparanoid or something? (If I could have made it extra-invisible I would have added 'just because you're paranoid doesn't mean invisible text's not out to get you')

Message sent to Bard and Karashi by Eternion to get both away from the party. This means if/when he attacks, Ardam and co. have a secondary party consisting of Evil Robot Death-Spy, instead of Karashi and ERDS. Bard not present for silly singage either. Whacky-smacky.
Then Karashi shoots the bard and Eternion with Crossbow Quarrels of Love Philter and the two evil ones walk off into the sunset and get burnt.
I think when I actually had a bard (as opposed to, say, a mage with the sing ability which was about 937% more useful), he had a harp equipped for a total of 15-20 minutes of gameplay (around when I got the Lamia's Harp and didn't have a better knife yet). Of course, most of the time I used Sing was on a character other than the bard.

Why not a Bard with Black Magic equipped?
February 8 2001, 12:52 PM
'Course, this is from the person who literally spent hours fighting those blasted Metal Squirrels or whatever they were, just to master all of the classes.
(shrugs) I tend to like Bards as characters, but not as fighters. Except for the Requiem. ^_^ And that other song that increased strength, but it's been so long since I've played FFV that I've forgotten its name.
Still like mages better, though.

I didn't bother reading all those other posts, so forgive me if someone already said this, but doesn't Gildward look a LOT like the bard?

Steps to the plot!!!
February 8 2001, 9:53 PM
Step 1: Get them in same place
Step 2: knock em out
Step 3: Take them to evil vilanous lair place
Step 4: Explain evil plan and commence mind switching procedure thingy
Step 5: Laugh as they escape
Step 6: Watch the confusion
Step 7: Wait for Adventurers to return
Step 8: Talk to them for some reason
Step 9: Fight them
Step 10: Win
Step 11: Swap their minds around randomly!
Step 12: Repeat steps 5 thru 12.

About 700 reasons to use black mage with sing over bard with black magic
February 9 2001, 12:13 AM
ALL of a black mages stats are a LOT higher than a bards except for speed (I think it's like 5-10 lower).
And why kill skull eaters when there are better things that give better ABP? I personally killed tons of those RockStatues in Val basement (Lvl5 Death rules), but ShieldDragons in Kuza castle work pretty well, and they give good experience. Of course, there's always the Magic Pots in Phoenix tower, but there are only so many of those (the 100 ABP is nice, though), and there are those movers in the Cleft of Dimensions that give 199 ABP, but they're tricky to kill.
It was just the name the unknown shadowy person put on the note. Karashi hasn't tried calling him by name or anything yet.
Gildward could yet turn out to be the unknown shadowy person. :O

Ok, I get it now

Alright, thanks. I just discovered the forum yesterday (didn't know it existed). I suppose I could have checked the dates they were posted, but hey, no one got hurt, did they?

You have a point there
February 10 2001, 1:32 AM
Hey, you may be right, although it's not all that likely. I think the shadowy figure is either some new guy or Eternion. He probably wants revenge on Gildward for preventing his victory over Khrima. He also chose Karashi because Karn, Ardam, Drecker, or that Spybot thing would be a bit suspicious if he realized that he was set up on a date with another guy. Now that I think about it, he's probably some other bard - most likely Gildward's lifelong rival. What could Eternion accomplish by playing a song of sleep that he couldn't acomplish by yelling "Void Thunder!" repeatedly?
