GC goodness...

I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet here. Then again, as of late we have been focusing far too much on Bards and their ilk...

But, is it just me or does the Gamecube not look like the sweetest system in this next generation. I mean, FF is great and all, but considering that I don't have a N64, it's a high testament that I've spent at least as much time playing Super Smash Bros. as I have FF 7, if not more. And have had more fun doing so.

Besides, the PS2 will have Square and MGS2, but can that compare to just the first party stuff Nintendo is gonna bring to the table? Metroid, Link, Mario, and yes, even Pokemon (Which is a good gameplay oriented RPG.) All Nintendo needs to do to make things perfect is to make sure that you can play Smash Bros. Mélee over the net.

Excal, hoping to show off his 1337 Hylian skills should that ever happen.

Gamecube is (as was N64) good for multiplayer games

May 21 2001, 3:13 AM

Which is kind of ironic, considering it has inferior hardware and will have a harder time handling the extra data that multiplayer games entail (anyone else get lots of lag when playing Perfect Dark on N64 with 4 players and a few bots?).

But good hardware alone does not make a gaming system.

Hard to play Perfect Dark?

May 21 2001, 11:51 AM

Very hard. Hell, three players and a four bots and it will lag in a heated fire fight. Do you know how impossible it is to snipe like that?

That's why you don't snipe.

Most of the weapons in PD kill in one hit anyway, so why bother trying to snipe? I just just pick up a Devastator or automatic gun and do fine.

Well that's just wrong.

Most weapons in PD don't kill in one hit. In fact, most take several hits to kill. Take this scenario for instance:

Weapons:
AR
Avenger
Dragon (regular)
Cyclones
Magnums
and the rapid fire pistols (I can't think of the name)

People: 2 other friends, and 6 bots split into to two other teams of 2 and 4.

Scene: Area 52. Cap the Flag. We are in the area with the two towers.

In this scenario, I snipe. I enjoy sniping. I'm not called Baron von Headshots for nothing. The weapons listed above do not kill in one hit. And so I snipe. I snipe well. I stand in the tower with the flag and destroy the opposition. And I enjoy it. That's why I snipe.

"Sega announced today that it plans to bring an initial 10 titles to Nintendo's next-generation GameCube console. The company's first three GameCube offerings include Phantasy Star Online Version 2, Super Monkey Ball and Virtua Striker 3 Version 2002."

PSO2... on Gamecube... THERE IS A GOD.

PSO2 != PSOV2

PSO2 = Sequel to PSO
PSO v2 = New version of PSO

The best way to take care of lag in Perfect Dark…

May 22 2001, 4:19 AM

Is combat boosts! If everything's in slow motion, there isn't much lag.

The most fun I've ever had in Perfect Dark is with 3 friends in the Matrix level (I forget what it's really called, but it's like that scene from the Matrix) with both types of rocket launchers, the laptop gun, some other weapon (usually Falcon 2 or Super Dragon), and combat boosts. We'd have massive slowmo rocket fests which usually entailed 1 person grabbing the boosts, then dropping from the top floor as he activated them. Then they'd start shooting homing rockets at each other while the third person either joined in the fun or used the controllable rocket.

Let me tell ya, after doing that all night driving home seemed really weird since we were used to slow motion.

Cyclones and Dragons are very powerful as well.

Never Snipe

May 23 2001, 12:33 AM

Snipers die more than anyone else, while they are trying to aim thier pistal at you they get hit by a remote mine, 2 rockets, A few clips from an assult rifle fire, Couple of prox pinball grenades, and a load Devastater rounds. The best method is to run around like a mad man and have a very fast finger. Back on the subject of lag I only have lag trouble when I over load the game with 4 people and 6+ bots. Strange it could differ person to person. (also I am well aware I can't type/spell so pointing it out doesn't help.)

Except that NEVER happens.

May 23 2001, 10:17 AM

I can in all honestly say that that has never happened. In fact, when I snipe I get the survivor award every game. Let me begale you:

I was in the Temple, and we had our base in that very narrow hallway that leads to a dead end. Our flag was at the dead end part of the hallway along with an Avenger and ammo for said weapon. At the other end there are two hallways that connect to it. I was given (chose) sniper detail and stayed right in front of the flag and waited for one of the three enemy teams to come and try to get our flag. And they came. And they died. Quite quickly I might add. During that one game while sniping, I racked up 247 kills and died only 8 times. My fellow participants died a good 20 times. So as you can see there is reason to snipe.

True, if you absolutely suck at sniping (and trust me, if you use a pistol to snipe, you suck) then you probably shouldn't try sniping. But if you happen to be a fairly good sniper, there is no problem.

The problem with sniping in the tower is…

If the weapon that can fire through walls is in, people know exactly where you are and can get your from a ways away.
