Looks like to me it should read "1949 Athletics Team Issue".
He is a Philadelphia Athletic in the picture.

Yep, it's a mislabel unless there's something I don't know.

It is mislabeled and I will have to get it corrected next time I see them at a local show.

Perhaps the graders at Beckett didn't realize the A's once played in Philadelphia ...

Phil:

Is that a team picture on thin stock or a placemat?

Dave:

It is a team picture on thin stock. Since the issue was sponsored by a restaurant it could have easily been a placemat though, good question!

'52 Topps complete

Just bagged this bad boy; big thanks Doug! Not only does this complete my 1952 Topps set, it also finishes my favorite 5 year run in any sport card series - the 1952-53-54-55-56 baseball set completion. The 1952 set was done a card at a time in graded condition. The first set was the 1956 done 1 card/time in raw, followed by the 1955 set in the same manner. Went out and bought the 1954 set in mostly raw, with the Aaron, Snider, Banks in mid grade slabs. Next was the 1952 set done a card at a time. When it was almost finished (only #311 left) I was able to procure a 1953 set from another board member in mostly raw except for the high val cards in lower grade slabs. Saw a lot of '52 Mantles come and go, as the prices just kept climbing, even though the economy hit the skids. Thought it might be a long time but opportunity knocked and it feels good.
