Pro Footballer Responds to My Post

I have never heard of this happening but a member of the 1951 Topps Magic set--Tom "Dutch" Rushing responded to a post of mine on the 1951 Topps Magic set.

"I saw that you had an old football card of me and thought I would write and tell you."

"I live in Greenville, Ms. and I am 77 years old and still in fair shape. I jog and walk three days a week. I have one of those old cards and my grandson has one."

"I won't take up any more of your time, but will enclose a picture of me now and my grandson Tom Rushing."

He enclosed a very nice picture of the two of them.

Very nice thing for him to do. I wrote to thank him but his e-mail address was not accepting e-mails from me(guess my reputation got out)

As I said, first time I heard of an ex pro athlete responding to a post on Net54.

Hey Jim

That is so COOL!! Maybe we should post pics of ALL our cards & see who answers next.

(Just don't post any OJ cards---He may come & try to claim them!!)

Very nice, Jim !!! I've corresponded by phone/email/letter in the past with many former athletes (since I'm a big autograph collector), but never have they responded from a posting on a message board.

I have had two conversations through email with Hap Moran's son...once when I sold him a Diamond Matchbook of his dad and just recently when I sold some Frankford Yellow Jackets items.

I've also had a family member of Johnny Kling email me in the past about a post I made on Net54...and of course have had many nice email and snail mail exchanges with the great-nephew of Big Sam Thompson who is a lurker on Net54.

After checking out the '51 set that was posted here, I noticed that one of the players shared an unusual last name with a friend at work (Trillhaase). When I saw him the next day, it turned out that Walter Trillhaase was his father, who passed away about two years ago. He wasn't aware that his dad had a card; picked one up for him at Reading.
