I noticed and bid on (and lost) a 1935
National Chicle Beattie Feathers card.
The auction ended yesterday, I lost the link, but wondered if the winner reads this board and would let us know if he or she gets it graded, what grade it came to.
It looked like a perfecet card, but the picture was a bit out of focus.
Something just didn't seem right about that card. It might have been that it was out of focus (and that is often a deceptive tactic as well) or that the card had the wrong "look". I can't put my finger on it but I did not bid. Other Feathers will come along...not a particulary difficult card.
It's only my opinion, and I've only had a handful of Chicles in my collecting life, but it looks alot like the reprints I've seen. Something about the colors being too saturated, at least to me.
Thanks guys. I am now trying to buy a few Chicles that have been graded and sold by reputable dealers. I
I've spent about a year buying 1960's PSA 8 HOFers, but decided to get a couple of these beautiful little card.
Then I saw the Feathers, and emailed the seller to guarantee the card and this is what he wrote:
"yes this card is not a reprint, I picked it up the other day from a friend at a local show. Buy it now was $399.99 which includes shipping, let me know if you would like to do this
Mike"
