Hi all, I've just started dabbling in some football cards and picked up a 1968 Topps card of Craig Morton. The back seems to show a piece of a picture of Bart Starr - Green Bay Packers. I have two other football cards from 1968 and both of those have regular stats like position, team, bio, etc.
I'm sure this is an easy question, but whats up with the different back?
Thanks,
Rob
The backs of some of the cards from the second series have "puzzle pieces" printed on them, instead of stats. They can be put together to form a picture of either Bart Starr or Len Dawson. 10 or 12 pieces for each I think.
thanks for the info Richard. So can these back pieces be found on every players card in the 2nd series? Or just some of the players? Is it possible that Craig Morton will have a different piece of the puzzle than the one I have, or would ever Craig Morton puzzle piece be the same? And I'm guessing these backs are more scarce (and maybe even less desirable?) than those w/stats on the back?
I don't think any of the puzzle-piece-backed cards are any scarcer than the stat back ones. They should have been printed in the same quantities, since the puzzle-piece-backed cards were on the same sheet as the stat-backs.It's like red says above, there is only 1 back for each card, whether it be a piece of the puzzle or stats. Actually, I don't think there are any known scarcities in the entire set. Prices are driven by the player on the front and the condition of the card. I'm sure however, that some of the graded card collectors here can give some insight about which cards are harder to find in higher grade (Better condition).
