Greatest by position

September 16 2008, 3:54 PM

QB Unitas - You don't even need his first name - Like Prince
RB Jimmy Brown - The Very Best & was one of the dirty dozen
RB Walter Payton - The next to best
WR Jerry Rice - The Best of the modern WR
WR Don Hutson - Simply the best
TE Ozzie Newsome - Casper almost got the nod (No not the friendly ghost)

C Mel Hein - Voted the first League MVP and played Center - Has to be on the list
T Cal Hubbard - Just a beast in his day
T Ed Healy - Played 3 seasons in 5 months
G John Hannah - His nick name is Hog
G Tom Mack - Just because I had to pick someone whose name did not begin with an H (thought about Hickerson)

DE Deacon Jones - The Hand Club
DT Joe Greene - Probably would not be here if he didn't play with LC Greenwood
DE Reggie White - Most pro bowls ever I believe

LB Lawrence Taylor - The best Drugs or no Drugs "He just preferred them"
LB Dick Butkus - Defined the position
LB Mike Singletary - Those Eyes
LB Chuck Bednarik - has to be on the team Don't beleive me ask Kathie Lee

CB Mel Blount - The no chuck rule was because of him
S Ronnie Lott - A harder hitter I am not sure you will find
S Ken Houston - The guy was an All Pro where ever he went and played forever
CB Emlen Tunnell - The best of the early defensive backs

P Sammy Baugh - Just had to get him on the team
K George Blanda - A Raider must be on the team

C Lambeau - just like Unitas A first name is not needed.

Re: Greatest all time team

For my team, and I guess any team, the plyers would be measured against their peers, the following team would represent the players in their "prime"

QB Tom Brady (last year's version)
HB Barry Sanders (imagine if he had this type of blocking)
FB Earl Campbell for short yardage, and goal line situations
WR Lance Alworth
WR Jerry Rice
WR Randy Moss (Brady would pick you apart with these three WR's, throw Deion in there occasionally...watch out!! Moss would be the deep threat)
TE John Mackey (can block and catch)
T Jackie Slater (brick wall)
T Anthony Munoz (brick wall)
G John Hannah (brick wall)
G Jim Parker (brick wall)
C Dwight Stephenson (best center ever, easy)

P Sammy Baugh (Backup QB)
K Adam Vinatieri (who else would you want if the game is on the line?)
PR Devin Hester (could also be back with Sayers for KR)
KR Gale Sayers (Backup HB)
ST Bill Bates (special teams stud)

ILB Dick Butkus
ILB Ray Lewis
OLB Jack Lambert
OLB Lawrence Tayler (which of these four LB's would you least want to run into?)
DE Reggie White
DE Bob Lilly (White and Lilly at each end of the line..devastating, oh yeah, LT can come around the outside of these guys)
DT Joe Greene
DT Lee Roy Selmon (very underrated, played on some bad teams, a monster)
NG Chuck Bednarik (backup Center)
CB Deion Sanders (could also line up at WR or return kicks, a true shutdown corner)
CB Darrell Green (no one will out run him)
SS Ronnie Lott (could force some fumbles with his hits)
FS Dick (Night Train) Lane (just let this guy roam free back there...also let him use his "clothesline" tackle)

Coach: Vince Lombardi, Bill Walsh (Off coord), Tom Landry (def coord)

Owner: George Halas

Howard Cosell, Don Meredith, and Al Michaels would call the game

Otto Graham has to at least get a mention as possibly the greatest QB ever.
