Are you implying Reagan and Bush II are responsible for a rise in mental illness?
Given the rise in BDS among liberals, AKA progressive socialists, perhaps you are right
How are you feeling, Ron?

We (my wife and I)were discussing some of this topic over supper tonight. Living in Mn, perhaps we don't see the magnatitude of the problem, but we were talking about a person we know. He got shot in the head, his behaviour has become erratic, the system deals with him by giving him a subsidy for housing and a job in an undemanding circumstance. We also hire him for small task when we can afford it. When he got his medications mixed up he attacked some one and went to jail. The system needs another mechanism besides jail to deal with the mentally ill, but the big government/every one has free choice crowd stand as major obstacles to that. So the mentally ill and the addicted are paid to remain in their sorry state. Liquor store owners and social workers benifit, but their customers and clients, not to mention society, does not.

YOU know that Reagan put the mentally ill on the streets in CA
In New York, too, phroggie. It was unbelievable that a perceived human being would do that to their fellow humans.

You are the liar, Janie. Your version of events is so simplistic, it's a political lie. Why do you bother? You should know by now that your intellectual capability is sub-par on this board and that your lies always get caught.
The California legislative bodies passed the Lanterman-Petris-Short act (1967) and Reagan signed it. The intent was to provide community-based housing and services for the mentally ill. The counties and communities failed miserably. Then Proposition 13 was passed, property taxes were controlled and, unfortunately and funding dried up for many services, not just for the mentally ill. That's when the mentally ill started to appear on the streets and in corrective intitutions.
To say that Reagan "put the mentally ill on the streets" is an untruth, if not an out-and-out partisan bull crap lie.
And Ron, all this has been going on through the Carter and Clinton Adminstrations, too. So, to call this a Reagan and Bush legacy is a falshood, too.

....would LIE. Here is the TRUTH of the matter.....
During his governorship, Reagan actively dismantled the public psychiatric hospital system, proposing that a community-based housing and treatment system replace it. According to some Reagan critics, the first objective was effectively accomplished, but the community replacement facilities were never adequately funded, either by Reagan or by his successors, contributing nationwide to current problems with homeless people, and an overfilling of jails and penitentiaries by people who would be better served with the earlier hospital system. Many of these ill people still are on the street. Also, a statewide teachers strike started in Los Angeles due to Reagan's cost cutting and poor budgeting at the same time.
When then-governor Ronald Reagan closed state mental institutions in the 1960s, policy-makers anticipated that a network of community-based programs would develop to care for the mentally ill.
Also...here's what Reagan did about homlessness during his corrupt administration.....
When homelessness first became a national issue, however, the Reagan administration all but turned a blind eye to the problem. Federal expenditures for low-cost housing plunged during Reagan's watch from $32 billion in 1981 to just $7 billion in 1987.
At the same time, funding was slashed for a variety of social services, including public health, drug rehab and food stamps -- programs that were relied upon by the thousands of mentally ill people who'd been released from state facilities as a cost-cutting move.
Janie/Diane/Proven Liar you can cherry pick any sources you want but the truth of the matter is clear: Your piling the blame on Reagan is simplistic and intellectually dishonest. A political lie.
But I realize you can't handle much more than a simplistic Democratic Party lie spoon fed to you. It's okay.

I not only didn't "cherry-pick" anything at all (it was easy to get backup for the TRUTH about Reagan), but I also LIVED in CA when Reagan pushed the mentally ill onto the streets. I also WORKED in psychiatric nursing at the time. Moniker is merely proving that he is a pathological liar (or so senile that his memory is completely gone).
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Liar? You are misiformed by you Hero; Rush Limbaugh! The Rock of Conservative-Republican views and just as "Stupid". If you are as you believe of yourself, well, tell Limbaugh to debate me. He is not the "Buckley" of the 21st Century! I espect him and his ability and knowledge; althoughI tended to accept Vaughn's view, more often, but Limbaugh is no Buckley nor Vaughn... more like; hmmm, "Joe McCarthy". You a lost child in the Wilderness and should you reach my home, I will feed you but send you on your way, to be Fiscally responsible!
Oh, yeah. Reagan pushed the mentally ill into the streets. Right. In typical Diane/Janie/Proven liar fashion, you have cobbled together bits and pieces of fact with a whole lot of Dem spin machine exaggeration and falsehood to create a rear-view description of a false history to keep another ember of hate and resentment burning in your evil little heart. Aren't you warm enough, yet?
I was living in California at the time and I still am. So what? That doesn't alter the truth.

I remember when Reagan closed down Agnew State Hospital. My father had a friend there. They treated them like criminals. Turned them out on the streets.

Damn! Somehow I though there was a president or two in between Reagan and Bush....maybe someone missed the TWELVE years from the time Reagan left office until Bush came into office! Eight years were Clinton years....wonder why he didn't fix the problem when he had the chance???
and besides....since the bar has been lowered concerning mental health cases one would have to suppose that the majority of those with diagnosed or un-diagnosed "mental problems" are registered Democrat voters...the last two elections shine some light on that....no matter where they reside! ACORN saw they were registered and made sure they made it to the polls...the ones with more than one personality got a vote for each! LOL! along with the recently departed's votes!

"...YOU know that Reagan put the mentally ill on the streets in CA (and don't LIE because I lived there when he did that and the damn streets were cold as hell too! It was hard as hell to find enough Ho Ho's and Little Debbie Cakes to keep me alive until I met Bulphog dressed as Anna Pavlova dancing The Dying Swan on Castro Street! He said I reminded him of Hanno and I said I reminded myself of Hanno...and off we went!).
