As someone said tonight, if Obama thinks that tensions between the US and Europe are something new, something that only occured during Bush's eight years, then he needs to go back to school and study history.

Aren't you guys shocked?

Pffftt....

Of course tensions have been there... at least since 1607.  that is not a surprise.  I'd rather solve it with a kind word and a stiletto than a curse and a bludgeon.

Really, I'm not surprised you don't get it.  Disappointed maybe, but, not surprised.

Like we did when we formed this nation?  You really are clueless to the metaphor of a "big stick" aren't you?  You've never studied history in that context at all.  A world of Ivory Tower chit-chat, without so much as a chip in any of the fine china.  Ultimately, I'm honestly quite happy the dueling went out of style.  You should be downright delerious!

As if you know how I studied history.  You are a blowhard.  You don't know me, except from your own mindless fantasies.  (but, please, put forward your best guess as to how "I studied history"... and what I know of it.. that should be entertaining)

And, oh probably, I'm most likely a better shot than you.

That's your only answer to opposition..  Shoot them.

Assuming all of your beliefs are correct for you; how in the world can you know that your beliefs are correct for me?

This shoe smarts when it's on the other foot doesn't it? *chortle*  Nevertheless, like I said, I can only go by what you write.  It's also how I mix your medicine when you are in need of a dose of your own.  Sorry for the mixed metaphors.

Um... oh Great Scholar of Global History... Do you recall a smug and satisfied man waving a piece of paper at the cameras after his journey back from Germany to England? Yeah, sure. Kind words. Those were very successful kind words and stiletto, weren't they? Kind words from Chamberlain and a stilletto from Hitler. They both died in utter disgrace.

LOL! The history of Europe-- indeed the world-- is littered with the carcasses of men with kind words and stilettos.

Look. I'm sure Obama is playing to a Euro audience and with a Euro message. That's a given.

Unfortunately for Obama, there is a very large and much, much more important audience watching him from Here At Home...

And to a whole hell of a lot of us, he ain't looking too good right now.

You liberals are so silly. You buy into the gutter journalism and elitist pomposity of some Europeans and decide that George Bush destroyed our reputation over seas. That's such a boyish myth and you are so deeply invested in it that I laugh sometimes.

Bush put the fear of God in any nation and any subversive group that contemplates any action against us. Bush put the Russians on warning very early in their neo-expansionist campaign with his missile umbrella over Eastern Europe. Bush put the Euros on notice that if they don't play ball with us, we will kick their asses out of their cozy little oil-sucking positions in the Middle East. Bush demonstrated to Hamas and other anti-Israel groups that our allegiance is unshakeable.

Of course that made him unpopular with our enemies and our rivals and with Euro leaders he put on the spot.

But the biggest shame, the worst demonstration of mal-adjusted political partisanship, was the hatred his actions engendered here at home among the Democratic Party, the media, and their allies on the lunatic fringe. Soros and MoveOn included.

A disgraceful period of American politics.

What a load of crap

April 4 2009, 7:09 PM

Bush put the fear of God in any nation and any subversive group that contemplates any action against us. Bush put the Russians on warning very early in their neo-expansionist campaign with his missile umbrella over Eastern Europe.

June 16 2001 ~ http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/1392791.stm

Mr Bush described their meeting as straightforward and effective.

He said it was time to move beyond Cold War attitudes, away from mutually assured destruction towards mutually earned respect.

"I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue.

"I was able to get a sense of his soul.

"He's a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that's the beginning of a very constructive relationship," Mr Bush said.

---------------------------------------------

~ Jump to August 13 2008 ~ But but ... I thought he looked into his eyes... saw his soul??? Because he has ordered a military attack on a sovereign Nation, Bush cannot tell Russia they can't attack a sovereign Nation. Those damned Russians dare mock Bush!

http://rffm.typepad.com/republicans_for_fair_medi/2008/08/russia-attack-on-georgia-bush-looked-into-putins-eyes-what-did-he-fail-to-see.html

As of Wednesday, August 13, 2008, Russian troops were continuing their advance on cities and military bases in the sovereign country of Georgia.  In a statement issued by President George W. Bush, it was revealed U.S. intelligence has indicated the Russian military was still in the process of attacks on vital points of transportation, parts of civilian infrastructure and even ships at sea sailing under the Georgian flag.  In his strong statement, Bush promised economic, humanitarian and military aid would continue to be sent to Georgia from the United States.  Bush also noted the heavy presence of Russian naval forces in the Black Sea where crucial Georgian ports, like Poti, are located.  Bush said he expected American aid to have free access to these ports of entry.

Some assert Bush was caught flat-footed regarding his relationship with Putin.  However, the President's strong response to Russia's aggression in Georgia may indicate that cozy relationship between America and the former Soviet Union is now over.

--------------------------------------------------

Bush put the Euros on notice that if they don't play ball with us, we will kick their asses out of their cozy little oil-sucking positions in the Middle East. Bush demonstrated to Hamas and other anti-Israel groups that our allegiance is unshakable.

----------------------------------------------

I'm still searching for the transcripts for the "we will kick their asses out of their cozy oil-sucking positions" speech.

CJ, it seems that the united front of America and the Easttern European democracies in diplomatic defense of Georgia caused the Russians to take a quiet exit from that scene. Nonetheless, the U.S. threat to install  a missile program there to protect those young democracies is still viable, and it is forcing the Russians to adapt their behavior. All's quiet on the Russian front.

Thank Bush for that, and for the confidence he engendered among the East European democracies that America is a steadfast ally of theirs' against the resurging Soviet Empire.

Let's just hope that Obama comprehends the strategic balance in the same light.

Obama has yet to gain Bush's cred in foreign nations that: 'if you mess with America and our allies, you will pay a very painful price.' Sadly, the nature of dictatorships, radical theocracies, and socialist erosion being what it is, Obama will soon have establish his cred, or lose the 2012 election.

It's inevitable.

I'm still trying to figure out how a "missile shield" will protect "young democracies" ... could you spell that out for us?  We're protecting them against exactly what (via the missile shield)?
