From Rasmussen (conducted: 4/6-7/09)

  • 53% say Capitalism is better than Socialism
  • 20% say Socialism is bettern than Capitalism
  • 27% say they are not sure which is better

» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat)

In a recent Rasmussen telephone survey the polling organization found that Americans are losing interest in Capitalism. Only a slight majority say Capitalism is better than Socialism (53%).

Another interesting trend developing are those Americans under 30: they were essentially divided, saying 37% preferred Capitalism, 33% preferred Socialism, and 30% were undecided. Among the older generation (those over 40) strongly favored Capitalism, wile only 13% thought Socialism was better.

What this polling data suggests is that Americans' viewpoints about Capitalism and Socialism are changing. The ideology of the country is in flux, in light of the recent economic downturn.

Interestingly, to this author, there are some great points in both Socialism and Capitalism. One cannot simply say one is better than the other. It is the hope of this author that Americans create a hybrid ideology between these two schools of thought.

As we progress into this new century let us be examples to the rest of the world and work in cooperation with them, not against them. As a side note: Js-Kit has been non-functional for the past few days. We are in contact with them and are hoping to have the comments section functioning ASAP.

-----During the cold war, the middle and working classes were treated well and cut in for a nice share of the pie by the Capitalists at the top.  Once the Soviet Union collapsed from its battle with Islam (thats right Islam not Regan.) then all the money flowed to the top as fast as they could buy a few politicians and new laws.   Now the youth don't see the point of capitalism.  Its time to bring back the "Are your bathrooms breeding Bolsheviks? "  posters.

I have doubts that those who took the poll even understand what each is.

you could be right.  however that is even more disturbing because people in this country should understand that capitalism is like democracy it self---the worst system in the world execpt for all the rest.  If they do not understand that capitalism properly done empowers more people than any other economic system, then we have failed big time.

LOL! In the gutter is in the gutter and when the kiddies are hungry and the rain is coming down on the family and there's no talking in the world that's gonna make these hungry people believe that they're not hungry...then they are going to turn on the masters! This story has been played out every place socialism has been tried...and the "Elitist masters" will then turn the machine guns on those hungry people...and they'll be hungry no more nor a burden on the state...and the media will report on a Flower Show! You get the government you deserve...and the tide turns on those that brought it forth and takes them out to sea to drown! "Shape up" to that!

first skippy ya ignorant lout.  When were the food riots in the Scandinavian countries?  What was the toll when the Norwegians stormed the parliment?   Why do you think you know anything at all?

Second, that fear of starvation after letting some one grab hold of the government while promising bread and circuses is at least as well founded in mercantile/capitalist systems.  Read Dickens for a start.  Hell gin was invented to keep the population dislocated from the country side pacified.

Here is the equivalent of your rant, from a centrist perspective and more reasonable tone.

Dear J2,

I've had enough! Enough of Wall Street, pharmaceutical companies, and Big Oil owning Congress. When the country voted for a change last November, it was about taking back Washington for all of us not just the big money interests who can afford to pay to play.

Wall Street didn't get the message. Even after receiving billions in bailout funds, they're still lobbying Congress for weaker rules and no caps on executive pay. But we're not going to convince them we're going to put an end to the pay-to-play system that gave them so much power over Congress in the first place.

November was the beginning. Now is the next step: breaking the stranglehold of Wall Street and the wealthy interests on our decision makers.

Join us in sending that message: free our elected leaders from Wall Street and the wealthy interests by passing legislation that would end pay to play politics with a new system where congressional candidates run for office on a combination of small donations and limited public funding. The bill is called the Fair Elections Now Act.

You still have a chance to write a letter today to urge your representative to support the Fair Elections Now Act.

Click here to write a letter now: http://www.commoncause.org/SupportFairElections

They say "hindsight is 20/20." And when we look back and see that the big financial firms spent over $1.5 billion since 2000 on campaign contributions and lobbying Congress, it's no surprise that they got what they wanted in return: little oversight or accountability, even for the likes of Bernie Madoff.

Let's not make that mistake again. We need our elected officials back. And we can get them, with a real change: a citizen funded "Fair Elections" system in which members of Congress can quit the endless fundraising and spend full time working for - and listening to - all of us.

It's either us or Wall Street. We saw how it worked the other way and we're the worst for it.

Click here to tell them: enough of pay to play in Washington. Sign on and support the Fair Elections Now Act.

Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,

Josh Zaharoff

Ohhhhhh! Maybe you should get out more often and in the daylight! LOL! Just LOL! Nothing...with nothing...talking about nothing anyone gives a fuck about...isn't there a Greek freighter in port or something else you could be doing besides showing your ignorance...remember to gargle! thick as brick are ya now dear brain dead skippy boy? you are the one that claimed that socialism always led to food riots. So I just asked, because I missed the riots in Scandinavia. Sure you had riots in France and of course number one on your riot hit parade, the one you wept bitter tears because you were born too late to participate: Krystal Knacht. Or if you missed that one I'm sure you would have given your left nut to be with McArthur riding down the veterans bonus army in DC

ignorance is like that....

just like many soft on crime, peaceloving, anti-capitalist, left wing liberals are UNTIL they get mugged and robbed and then they turn conservative real fast....

Thos that think Socialism looks attractive will do exactly the same thing when they learn the truth about it.....

"...So I just asked, because I missed the riots in Scandinavia..."

You might want to research an unforeseen consequence of socialism in Denmark, Finland, Sweden: teenage alcoholism. Those are "riots" turned inward, if you know what I mean. Aimlessness, secularism, and nanny governments with a corresponding falling off of family supervision.

All is not well in the social democracies of Europe.

I have a very good fried whose wife is from Sweden and they go over there a couple of times a year. He says their economy is a joke...that it's like a house of cards but because of it's size and the fact that they don't have the crime and the criminal elements we have, aka Democrat base...that they make it work for them! This country could never support as much socialism because it's already packed to the gills with people that actually believe they are owed and are the very ones that commit the most crime...have the most welfare bastard children...and are the biggest dropouts thus at the bottom rung of the employment scale. Once the US gets 100% socialism the "owed" will have their "givens" taken away due to the "fairness" that must be built into socialism for it to at least "begin"....and they ain't gonna go for that! LOL!

The Russians that want the communist to come back in power want it for a reason....they find capitalism too much like work! The American bottom rungs will find socialism will be too much like work once all the variables are put into it!

It would be logical to think that 20% of our children refuse to grow up and accept responsibility. In fact the Socialist countries kill those kinds of people. USSR if you recall killed the poor.
